Today is Monday, the Twenty-second Sunday after Pentecost, and the Church recalls the Gospel words about how the Lord asked His disciples who people said He was. Peter answered: the Christ of God. But the Lord at once told them that He must suffer many things. In this question and answer lies the whole of our faith: Christ is recognized beside Him, in prayer and on the way. Today we remember Luppus of Thessalonica, servant of the great martyr Demetrius. Little is known of his life, but the essentials have survived: he followed his master to the very end and accepted martyrdom for Christ at the beginning of the fourth century. His faithfulness became an example even though almost nothing about the man was written down. Dear brothers and sisters, may this day pass in quiet prayer and good deeds. May the Lord strengthen you in faith, and may Saint Luppus be your intercessor. God's blessing on every step you take.
