In today’s Gospel, the disciples are crossing the lake when a storm rises around them. Christ is asleep in the stern, and in their fear they wake Him: we are perishing. He rises, rebukes the wind, and silence falls. And He asks them quietly: where is your faith? Today is the commemoration of St James of Omucha. He lived in the fourteenth century, was a priest, and founded the Omucha Hermitage in the Luzhsky district. We know little about his life, but his work itself speaks of the quiet labour of faith: he gathered the brethren, built a church, and prayed in the depths of the forest. Holiness often looks like this—not loud, but like the silence after a storm. May this silence find a place amid our busyness today. The Lord is near, even when it seems that He is asleep. May God’s blessing be with you and with your loved ones this day.
